Growing, Growing Strong!
A Whole Health Curriculum
for Young Children

This training is designed for programs which have or are considering implementing the comprehensive health education curriculum, Growing, Growing Strong (Redleaf Press, 1997). Growing, Growing Strong provides developmentally appropriate activities in health and safety education, nutrition, transportation, mental health, self-help skills, and other topic areas. This training emphasizes the importance of early childhood health education, and participant activities help participants feel comfortable with the curriculum and incorporation of curriculum activities in the daily lesson plans.

At the end of th
e session, the participants will be able to:
  • Identify appropriate and essential health education topics for children.
  • Identify ways to integrate Growing, Growing Strong curriculum in the daily lesson plans.

Content addresses:

Review of the components of the curriculum; discussion of why each topic is important; participation in sample hands-on activities.

The activities and topics selected for presentation in training include both familiar ones (such as handwashing) and those in which teachers may feel less comfortable (emotions and emotional situations).
