Nursery
and Classroom Safety
"The safety of children in your
care is essential, whether you care for children in a home,
center, or school setting. Basic safety issues and
potential hazards are similar for all types of childcare
settings. Through this presentation participants will
become more aware of safety concerns by reviewing the indoor
aspects of their facility - from the entrances and hallways, to
nurseries, classrooms, and indoor play areas. Participants
will identify elements in the facility that affect children's
safety; and discuss the roles of child, parent, and staff
education in promoting child safety. Topics covered
include entrances and steps; windows; floors, walls, and
ceiling's furniture; washroom, toileting, and diapering areas;
fire and burn prevention; poisoning prevention; toy safety; and
emergency preparedness.
