Managing
Food Allergies Training Module
"Allergy" refers to a variety of
conditions caused by an adverse reaction
of the immune system to substances
(allergens) in the environment.
Allergens cause reactions when they are
inhaled, have contact with the skin, or
ingested.
90% of all
food allergies are caused by 8 food
items: milk, peanuts, tree nuts,
eggs, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.
The purpose of this training is to
familiarize teachers with various food
allergens and ways to avoid exposure
during meals, snacks, and classroom
activities, Training also addresses
potential reactions and appropriate
responses.

October is...
Fire
Safety Month

Burns are
the
leading cause of accidental death in the
United States. At least 50% of burns can be
prevented. For young children, the
kitchen is the most common place burns
occur. Use this booklet to remind
adults to keep children safe from burns.

A fire
emergency can be frightening and very
different from the practice drill.
Through this training, discuss ways to
reduce fire hazards in early
childhood settings, both center and home
based. Practice what to do in a
fire emergency, and incorporate fun
developmentally appropriate activities
in lesson plans to teach young children
about fire prevention and safety.
