Child
Maltreatment:
Prevention, Recognition and Reporting
"Child maltreatment" is the
general term used to describe all forms of child abuse and
neglect. Annually, almost one million confirmed cases of child
abuse occur in the United States, and there are many more which
are not reported. For children 6 months to 13 years of age it is
the second leading cause of death, second only to unintentional
injury death. Abuse crosses all lines, regardless of
socioeconomic status, race, culture, geographic area, or age.
The purpose of this training is to make participants more aware
of the prevalence of abuse, the signs of maltreatment, and their
responsibilities as child caregivers.
